Slash

Personally, I found this article to be very interesting, mostly because I had never thought of how strange it is that we use slash as a slang term. I myself cannot truly remember the last time i used it, but I have heard it from friends telling me about their busy days vocally and through text. It does seem as though that its been going on for a while. It almost seems like it's a substitution for the word "while" instead of saying " I was talking to Miranda while drinking coffee" it's phrased as "I was talking to Miranda-slash-drinking coffee."

I don't think the meaning of the new slang term is too far off from it's original meaning. I believe that is has evolved to a broader meaning,as in it can be used in many more phrases such as the example given earlier. I think it is gaining traction due to the efficient way it can convey multitasking.

I also believe that the new meaning we have given to the "slash" has indeed changed the way we use the word and perceive the ideas connected to it. I feel as if we are always changing our language to make it easier to convey our ideas quickly and efficiently. An example is acronyms, everyone is using them to convey actions or emotions such as "lol" or "laugh out loud". The situation is similar to the "slash" due to them both being grammatical forms altered to better suit the needs of our generation.
