Direction and Description: Coplex Thoughts

I agree with  Elizabeth Spelke about how language helps us understand spatial concepts. If it wasn't for language how would we give directions to a friend or how would we describe something? When your brain creates the links that connects spatial concepts it allows you to understand what "left of a blue wall" by connecting Left, Blue, and Wall. It allows us to have common sense unlike the rats in the lab test that still couldn't figure out what left of the blue wall meant fifty percent of the time. It still takes time for us though, we aren't able to connect these paths until we reach the age of 6 as humans. Being able to use language to help direct someone and to help describe something to someone is what makes us different from other creatures. If we weren't able to understand spatial concepts we would probably not be the smartest creatures on earth because we would be no different from the rest of the animals. Our brains create a path and once the path is created, we can go back and access the same path in less amount of time and effort. If we didn't have a language what and how would we think? Language makes it possible for us to talk among ourselves when we are driving or walking around. If we didn't have a language to think in, would we just day dream our actions or how would we remind ourselves of the 12 o' clock meeting we have to go to. Language exercises our brain which also helps us stay alert and aware.
